Hat Chi Do died attempting to help save Tu V. Huynh from drowning, Dunnville, Ontario, July 18, 1988. Huynh, 19, was fishing from a dam that spanned the Grand River when he fell into the turbulent water below the dam. Unable to swim to the bank, which was about 80 feet away, he floundered and called for help. Huynh’s friend, Do, 22, high school student, who was on the bank, immediately entered the river and began to swim toward Huynh. En route, he floundered and submerged. Huynh was rescued by boaters. Do was later recovered from the river, but he could not be revived.
