Hector M. Sanchez helped to save James M. Bryant from burning, Morgan Hill, California, March 28, 1983. Bryant, 26, was unconscious and trapped in his burning car following a highway accident. Sanchez, 37, coach operator, crawled into the car through a broken window to open one of the car’s doors. As flames issued into the front-seat area, Sanchez and two other men entered the car and attempted to free Bryant. After being forced out by heat, smoke, and increasing flames, the men again entered the car and were able to free Bryant. They removed him and took him to safety shortly before the car was engulfed in flames. Bryant recovered from his injuries, and Sanchez from smoke inhalation.
