Helen Gertrude Dickey, 35, dairy farmer, saved Harry A. Currey, 39, farmhand, from an enraged bull, Springfield, Ohio, January 19, 1925. While Currey, with the tine of a pitchfork through a ring in a bull’s nose, was leading the bull in a field, it jerked loose and charged, knocking Currey down. Currey made repeated attempts to rise, but the bull, which had long horns, attacked him each time. Mrs. Dickey, who knew the bull was vicious, went 250 feet in the field to the bull, keeping a tree that was near the bull between her and its head. She went around the tree, took hold of the ring, and led the bull 250 feet to the barn and chained it. Currey was disabled for a week on account of bruises. 24955-2030
