Henry A. Schnorenberg, 29, farmer, saved Granville M. Smith, 22, stationary engineer, from suffocation, Eugene, Oregon, June 26, 1922. (See case of GRANVILLE M. SMITH.) Schnorenberg, who thought there was black damp in the well, descended the knotted end of the rope for Smith, tied the end around Smith, and climbed up the rope hand over hand to the surface, being aided somewhat at the top by a woman, who grasped his shoulder. He was slightly affected by gas. 22607-1813
