Henry S. Moore, 44, hoist operator, saved Neil F. Campbell, 9, from drowning, Sydney, Nova Scotia, February 7, 1911. Moore broke through the thin ice on Sydney Harbor as he crawled toward Neil, who, unable to swim, had broken through where the water was over 10 feet deep. Breaking the ice for a distance of 15 feet, Moore swam to Neil, who was beneath the surface and unconscious. He caught hold of Neil and swam to the edge of the hole, but as he tried to support himself, the ice broke several times. Finally an overcoat was thrown to him, and he and Neil were pulled to solid ice and out of the hole. Moore suffered no ill effects. Neil was revived. 6287-576
