Hilda M. Clark, 22, student, saved J. Fitch King, 22, student, from drowning, Huron, Ohio, September 7, 1916. King was seized with cramp while swimming in Lake Erie 285 feet from shore, where the water was seven to eight feet deep, and went under the surface several times. Miss Clark and another young woman, who were in wadable water 350 feet from King, started swimming toward him. They were very tired from play. Miss Clark reached King after he had become unconscious, took hold of his hand, and swam 10 feet with him toward a raft. She then saw a man in a rowboat approaching, and she trod water until the boat reached them. The man took King into the boat hurriedly and went to shore. Miss Clark swam 15 feet farther to the raft. Her companion had followed a different course and was 20 feet from King when Miss Clark reached him. She then swam to the raft and assisted Miss Clark on it. Miss Clark collapsed but revived. 17239-1564
