Horace V. Allen, 53, carpenter, saved James N. Hall, 14, schoolboy, from drowning, Sharon, Tennessee, June 27, 1930. While James was attempting to swim in the Obion River, he got into water 10 feet deep. He grasped a man who was with him, and both were submerged four or five times. Allen swam 40 feet to Hames, who grabbed him and pulled him under the surface. Allen pushed James away, and on coming to the surface, took hold of him. James again grabbed Allen, both being submerged. Allen pushed James toward the bank and then put his arm around him and swam several strokes to wadable water. The other man was given aid from wadable water.
