Hosrov M. Bonapartian saved Edith L. and Dorothy M. Foster from drowning, Far Rockaway, New York, June 18, 1933. While bathing in the Atlantic Ocean, Edith, 14,who could swim only a few strokes, and Dorothy, 20, drifted into deep water, which was cold. Dorothy took hold of Edith and tried to push her to wadable water, but Dorothy became weak, and they drifted farther from shore and were momentarily submerged several times. Bonapartian, 47, merchant, who was on a jetty that extended from shore nearly opposite them, jumped into the water and swam 60 feet to them. Dorothy then was unconscious, and Edith was holding Dorothy’s head out of the water and paddling. Telling Edith to hold to Dorothy, Bonapartian took hold of Edith’s wrist and swam slowly 45 feet to wadable water. Other men then took Dorothy and Edith to shore. Dorothy was revived. 33158-2761
