Howard I. Purdy attempted to save Marie E. Bona from being struck by an automobile, Plainville, Connecticut, June 12, 1931. While crossing a street, Marie, 6, walked into the path of an automobile, which was moving at a speed of 35 m.p.h. Purdy, 19, salesman, ran 20 feet to her, lifted her, and then turned to run off the roadway. The automobile at slightly reduced speed swerved and struck him, throwing him and Marie 15 feet. Marie was seriously injured but recovered. Purdy sustained fractures of the skull and one hip and other injuries. He was disabled for 3.5 months. 31222-2622
