Howard S. Trumpore died saving Claire C. Walch from drowning, Trenton, New Jersey, June 6, 1918. Claire, 13, became distressed in a feeder of the Delaware and Raritan Canal where the water was about nine feet deep. Trumpore, 30, millwright, waded and swam 20 feet to her, took hold of her, and swam five feet with her toward the bank. She took hold of him and climbed onto him, and they sank. When they came to the surface, Trumpore pushed Claire toward another man, who had requested him to do so, and Claire was taken to the bank and revived. A moment after being relieved of Claire, Trumpore sank and was drowned. 18912-1428
