I. Viola Bryson, 19, student, saved Orie L. Stevenson, 12, schoolboy, from drowning, Vinton, Iowa, June 25, 1921. Orie got in deep water in Dudgeon Creek and was carried by his struggles 10 feet from the bank. Miss Bryson waded toward him and then swam 15 feet, extending her hand to take hold of him. Orie grasped her hand and threw his arms and legs around her, leaving only one of her arms free. She struck Orie several times to free herself but without effect. They were submerged once, and with Orie clinging to her, Miss Bryson swam with one arm 15 feet to wadable water, using great effort and going under water momentarily. She fell with Orie in wadable water, and they were aided to the bank by two women. 21674-1915
