Isaac W. Dixon, 67, crossing watchman, attempted to save Marjorie Stabler, 5, from being killed by a train, Columbia, South Carolina, November 7, 1922. An automobile containing Marjorie and several others, including her parents, was stalled on a railroad track as a freight train was approaching at a speed of 8 m.p.h. All except Marjorie jumped from the automobile. Dixon ran 22 feet to a point beside the track and was reaching into the automobile for Marjorie when the train struck the automobile and pushed it off the track and upon Dixon. Marjorie was uninjured. Dixon suffered a fractured hip joint and other injuries, permanently crippling him. 23400-1918
