Isham B. Hailey, 16, student, saved Neal Craft, 9, from drowning, Hartwell, Georgia, May 27, 1915. Neal, who could not swim, fell from a ferry into the swift waters of the Savannah River, 50 feet from shore. Isham, a poor swimmer, dived from the ferry and supported Neal, and both drifted downstream, unable to reach shore. A man dived from the bank and relieved Isham of Neal. Isham reached the bank nearly exhausted. Neal was brought ashore, unconscious, but was revived. 14827-1203
