J. Alfred Snelling, 39, miner, helped to save Robert S. Cathers, 58, and Noah Goss, 33, miners, from suffocation, Joplin, Missouri, August 12, 1912. (See case of L. WINSTON CHEW.) Snelling entered the mine after Chew’s first attempt and acted as has been narrated. When he became sick, Chew helped him to the shaft and sent him to the surface.
