J. Franklin Elson, 44, clay miner, died assisting in an attempt to save Andrew J. Hamilton, 35, clay miner, from a mine cave-in, Brazil, Indiana, December 3, 1923. (See case of REUBEN A. BROWN.) Elson reached Hamilton slightly later than Brown. As he was helping Brown and the others in an attempt to lift the slab off Hamilton, he was caught under the second fall and instantly killed. 24227-1898
