J. Franklin Simon rescued a woman from assault, Morrisville, Pennsylvania, April 20, 1990. A 63-year-old woman was being assaulted in the front yard of her house by a 24-year-old man. Driving by, Simon, 34, production company owner, witnessed the attack; he immediately parked his van and ran to the woman’s aid. When he approached them, the assailant released the woman and confronted Simon in a threatening manner. As Simon led the woman away, the assailant left the scene momentarily to secure a rifle, which he then pointed at Simon’s head. Simon pushed the gun away just before it fired, the bullet lodging in his shoe. Simon and the woman fled, but Simon returned to the assailant when he began to menace the neighborhood. He tackled the assailant and helped to hold him until police arrived shortly and arrested him.
