J. Oscar Shipp saved Shell Sellers from suffocation, Minden, Texas, April 17, 1915. Sellers, 25, farmer, was overcome by carbon dioxide just as he reached the bottom of a well 25 feet deep. Two of three men refused to enter the well, and the third was afraid and did not volunteer. Shipp, 34, farmer, came to the well, tied a rope around his thighs, and was lowered to the bottom, taking another rope. He tied the extra rope to Sellers and then was drawn from the well. Sellers was drawn from the well and revived. Shipp experienced trouble in breathing in the well and was weak when he emerged, but he was not otherwise affected. 14808-1410
