J. Paul Newton saved a woman from being struck by a train, Silver Spring, Maryland, March 12, 1982. A distraught woman lay across a track at the Silver Spring station as a two-car passenger train approached from 300 feet away. Newton, 38, auditor, ran 50 feet to the woman. With the train about 30 feet from them and approaching at 20 m.p.h., Newton grabbed the woman and pulled her off the track. They fell to the platform as the train passed them.
