Jackie Nowlin, helped to save Charles L. Breeding from suffocation, Dante, Virginia, April 4, 1978. In a coal mine tunnel, Breeding, 28, was overcome by lack of oxygen. Nowlin, 23, machine operator helper, went to Breeding and, with another man, moved him toward the tunnel entrance. Nowlin then lost consciousness. He and Breeding were removed from the tunnel by other workmen. Both Nowlin and Breeding were revived.
