Jaclyn Rogé helped rescue Madison Schemitz from assault, Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, June 3, 2023. Madison, 17, had just left a restaurant with her friend and was about to get into her car when her ex-boyfriend ran up on her from behind and attacked her with a folding knife, stabbing her repeatedly. Rogé, 43, waitress, was about 50 feet behind her daughter Madison, on her way to her own car nearby when the assailant ran past her and attacked Madison. Rogé immediately ran to help, engaging the assailant and pulling him off Madison. The assailant then turned on Rogé and stabbed her in the forehead, hand and leg. As they struggled, a bystander who heard Madison and Rogé screaming sprinted across the parking lot and tackled the assailant to the ground. Lying on his back, the assailant began cutting his own throat when bystanders subdued him and wrested the knife away from him. First-responders then arrived and rendered first aid to all, including the assailant. He was later prosecuted and pleaded guilty to attempted murder and aggravated battery. Madison had been stabbed 17 times and was partially paralyzed. The bystander who ran to help suffered a severed artery in his hand and was recovering. Rogé spent four days in the hospital and was recovering.
