Jacob C. Frist saved Emma P. Wood and A. Harlan Scogin from being run over by a train, Meridian, Mississippi, February 3, 1914. Mrs. Wood, 58, carrying Harlan, 3, in her arms, was nearing a track on which a passenger train was approaching at a speed of about 12 m.p.h. When she was about two feet from the track, Frist, 52, station master, ran across the track and shoved her and the child backward. As he shoved them, the bumper timber struck him and knocked him 15 feet. He received injuries that totally disabled him for nine months, one of his hips being permanently injured. Mrs. Wood was slightly injured. 12673-1077
