James Benoit, 13, schoolboy, died attempting to save Fanny S. Wasti, 15, from drowning, Collinsville, Connecticut, July 19, 1922. Fanny stepped into deep water 50 feet from the bank while wading on a sandbar in the Farmington River. James, who was much lighter in weight than she, dived from the bank and swam to Fanny. As he came within reaching distance of her, he and Fanny sank together. They rose, face to face, and James called for help, but they sank again and were drowned.
