James Brennan, 58, laborer, died saving Barbara M. Loomis, 11, from drowning, New London, Connecticut, September 7, 1910. Brennan, fully clothed, and suffering from a weak heart, waded and swam to Barbara, who had become helpless and frightened in a current in Long Island Sound 250 feet from shore. He was swimming back toward shallow water, supporting her, when another swimmer arrived and relieved Brennan, who became exhausted, floated off, and was dead when reached. 5612-439
