James G. Quisenberry died attempting to save Selma A. Hermann from drowning, Bacliff, Texas, January 20, 1991. Mrs. Hermann, 52, was the passenger of a boat on Galveston Bay about a mile from shore when it hit a wave and threw her and the boat’s operator into the water. Quisenberry, 51, car dealership manager, was operating a boat nearby. He immediately went to the scene, where he and others on his boat rescued the other vessel’s operator. Mrs. Hermann, who was drifting away, called for help. Quisenberry dived into the water and began to swim toward her. When he had gone about halfway, he stopped swimming and floated face down. Other boaters arrived at the scene and removed Mrs. Hermann and Quisenberry from the water. They were taken to shore, but neither could be revived.
