James H. Taylor, 62, carpenter, died saving Johnnie Mae Harris, 15, from drowning, Seattle, Washington, August 15, 1965. In Lake Washington 250 from shore, Miss Harris jumped from a motorboat into deep water and swam toward shore. She became tired, was submerged briefly, and screamed for help. Taylor removed his shoes, dived from the boat, and swam 75 feet to Miss Harris. Taylor swam behind her and took hold of her. There was a struggle, and both were submerged briefly several times before they became separated. Taylor sank and did not return to the surface. Miss Harris was taken aboard another motorboat which soon arrived. Divers later recovered the body of Taylor.
