James Kevin Clark saved Jeffrey W. Williams from drowning, Loogootee, Indiana, September 8, 1968. Jeffrey, 9, was wading in the East Fork of the White River when he lost his footing and slid into deeper water where the current was swift. He flailed wildly as he was carried downstream and submerged intermittently. Kevin, 13, schoolboy, dived from the shallow water into the deeper area, swam a 120 in pursuit of Jeffrey, and overtook him about 100 feet from a dangerous eddy. Jeffrey continued flailing; and both boys were carried about 25 feet farther downstream by the time Kevin had succeeded in towing Jeffrey 65 feet to the steep banks where others aided them from the water.
