James N. Stringer, 54, carpenter, died attempting to save John T. Hamilton, 32, carpenter, from electric shock, Cleburne, Texas, March 22, 1912. As Hamilton walked along a street in the dark, he came into contact with a broken electric wire through which a current of 3,900 volts was passing. He fell to the ground, unconscious, with the wire beneath him. After a companion had made three unsuccessful efforts to push the wire from under Hamilton with a crutch, Stringer took the crutch and endeavored to pull the wire from beneath Hamilton, but the wire slipped along the crutch, touched his hand, and killed him instantly. Hamilton was dead when the current was cut off. 9551-825
