Jeremiah Frain, 38, boilermaker, saved Charles L. Davis, 41, assistant master mechanic, from suffocation, Rankin, Pennsylvania, June 21, 1907. Davis lowered himself 11 feet to the bottom of a valve chamber of a blast furnace without taking any precautions for his safety, although he had been warned of the presence of gas. He was almost immediately overcome and fell to the bottom of the chamber, unconscious. Men at the top called for help. Frain ran 60 feet, lowered himself into the chamber, and dropped to the bottom. A rope was immediately lowered, and he raised Davis and tied the rope around him. Davis was pulled to the top and was revived. Frain got out in safety. 8826-727
