Jesse Z. Lynn died attempting to save Ralph G. Longenberger from drowning, Mainville, Pennsylvania, July 17, 1918. Ralph, 17, laborer, after swimming about 45 feet in the Catawissa Creek, became distressed 30 feet from the bank, where the water was eight feet deep. Lynn, 25, pipefitter, swam 25 feet to Ralph, who grasped him in an undetermined way. They sank and rose to the surface together twice, Ralph retaining his hold on Lynn. Efforts were made to get a timber and a rope to them, but they sank again together and were drowned. 19043-1458
