Joe C. Woodrow rescued Allen L. Willoughby from burning, Sarcoxie, Missouri, November 23, 1986. Willoughby, 68, lay unconscious in the living room of his home after fire broke out and filled the room with smoke. A next-door neighbor, Woodrow, 63, rancher, was alerted and ran to the scene. He kicked in the front door, entered the house, in which there was no visibility, and searched the first floor for Willoughby. As he exited for fresh air, he found Willoughby. Re-entering, Woodrow seized Willoughby and dragged him out of the house. Moments later, a flashover engulfed the living room with flames. Willoughby suffered severe burns.
