John A. Sisco saved Josephine Domico from drowning, Paterson, New Jersey, August 11, 1915. Miss Domico, 21, was thrown from a launch when it was carried over a dam in the Passaic River. She fell into the edge of the main current and was being carried toward a fall 240 feet from the dam, where the water dropped about six feet on rocks. John, 16, schoolboy, in bathing trunks, dived from the bank and reached Miss Domico after swimming 75 feet. He grabbed her clothing, and Miss Domico made motions as if to grasp him around the neck, and he pushed her away. He grasped her again, and, holding her over his shoulder, he swam across the current and at times trod water. After he had swum and drifted for 50 feet and had taken Miss Domico into a slightly milder current, one of his feet touched a submerged rock 140 feet from the fall. He then stood on the rock in water to his breast and stroked to maintain his footing. John was badly winded and called for help. After he had been on the rock recovering his wind and supporting Miss Domico for a minute or two, a man reached them from the bank and took Miss Domico to the bank. John then swam to the bank. 15266-1387
