John B. Boyarski saved Cathryn R. O’Brien from assault, Vancouver, British Columbia, August 8, 1985. Cathryn, 15, was pulled from her bicycle by a man armed with a gun. The assailant then attempted to drag her to his car. Boyarski, 41, who came upon the scene while driving a port authority bus, saw Cathryn struggling with the assailant. He stopped the bus and got out. The assailant fired several shots at Cathryn, who fled when the assailant’s attention was diverted by Boyarski. Cathryn, wounded in an arm, ran to the bus and climbed aboard. The assailant then fired three shots at Boyarski at close range, but none of the shots struck him. Boyarski went back to his bus. The assailant fled but was apprehended shortly by police. Cathryn was hospitalized for her gunshot wound. 60621-7036
