John B. Geissinger, 41, superintendent of schools, died attempting to save Eugene Swayne, 47, physician, from suffocation, Harriman, Pennsylvania, June 8, 1920. Swayne was overcome by hydrocyanic gas in an apartment on the second floor of a building which was being fumigated. He had entered to open the doors and windows. He lay at an open window and was visible from the street. Geissinger, who knew the dangerous character of the gas, entered the apartment without taking any precautions, but he was overcome before he reached Swayne and could not be revived after being taken out. Swayne was removed by firemen from the outside and was revived. 20466-1630
