John Billings saved T. Faye Burkeitt from being killed by a train, Gloucester City, New Jersey, August 27, 1921. Faye, 2, walked from a track on which a freight train was approaching to the middle of an adjoining track, on which a passenger train was approaching from the opposite direction at a speed of 30 m.p.h. Billings, 47, horse dealer, ran around the rear end of the freight train and continued 12 feet to Faye. Without stopping, he took hold of her with one hand and ran off the track, clearing the track when the locomotive was 10 feet from them, the speed of the train having been only slightly reduced. 21893-1733
