John C. Wilson, 50, clerk, saved Robert H. Whitehill, 9, from drowning, West Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, December 8, 1907. Wilson crawled 30 feet on thin ice on Brown’s Fork of Ten Mile Creek to Robert, who was in a hole, and as he was pulling him out of the water, the ice broke. Both went under twice. Then, holding the boy above the water, Wilson tried to walk on the bottom, with his head under, but could make no progress. After struggling for a time, they received assistance and were rescued. 2094-226
