John D. Fulton sustained fatal injuries attempting to save Jefferson B. Robertson, Jr., from burning, Louisville, Kentucky, September 15, 1927. Robertson, 30, insurance claim adjuster, struck a match in the basement of a house, and flammable liquid in two barrels exploded. Robertson, ablaze from head to feet, started up a stairway to the floor above but fell back. Fulton, 27, insurance company department manager, who did not know Robertson, ran into the house, and, although the stairway was full of flame, Fulton ran down to help him. Fulton’s clothing took fire, and both men died within a few hours as the result of burns. 27635-2196
