John E. Burns, 23, student, died attempting to save Marian B. Bauman, 17, from drowning, Kings Dock, Ontario, August 22, 1927. While Marian and her sister were wading in the Saint Lawrence River, they were carried by a strong current into deep water 45 feet from the bank. Burns knew the current was strong, but he waded and swam from the bank to Marian and took hold of her. They were carried farther from the bank and were drowned. A young man saved Marian’s sister.
