John E. Campbell, Sr., saved June E. Ragan from burning, Indianapolis, Indiana, December 21, 1972. When another automobile struck her two-door sedan, Mrs. Ragan, 55, lost control of the vehicle, which veered into another lane of the highway and was struck from behind by a tank truck. Mrs. Ragan sustained injuries but remained conscious as flames broke out at the rear of the sedan. Campbell, 33, truck driver, ran to the automobile but found both doors jammed. Standing in flames issuing from beneath the sedan, he broke a door window and extended his upper body through the opening. Campbell sustained minor burns as he grasped Mrs. Ragan and pulled her out of the automobile, in which flames had appeared in the rear seat. Mrs. Ragan recovered from her injuries. 53353-6014
