John Harris saved James F. Robinson from being run over by a train, Cuba, Alabama, July 4, 1912. At a moment when an approaching passenger train running at a speed of 7 m.p.h. was but about 35 feet from him, Robinson, 80, retired, walked on the track without noticing his danger. Harris, 30, porter, ran 18 feet, jumped from a platform 20 inches above the track when the train was about 25 feet from Robinson, and, standing between the rails, lifted Robinson and swung him up on the platform. Other men grasped Robinson, and Harris jumped up on the platform. The locomotive brushed his clothes as it passed him at undiminished speed. 8830-1112
