John J. Feightner saved Elliott E. Remley from being struck by a train, Largo, Florida, September 1, 1972. As the result of an accident at a railroad crossing, an automobile came to rest on the track on which a passenger train was approaching at 55 m.p.h.; but the driver, Remley, 65, was too stunned to get out of his vehicle. The train’s engineer applied emergency braking as Feightner, 52, truckdriver, ran to the automobile where Remley’s wife had opened the door. As the wife ran clear of the crossing, Feightner extended his head into the automobile, grasped Remley, and pulled him to the door. Holding to Feightner, Remley got out of the vehicle. Feightner pulled Remley with him as he ran from the crossing. They were about 12 feet: from the sedan when it was struck by the slowing train, which stopped 500 feet beyond the crossing. 52928-6004
