John J. Toomey, 42, laborer, saved an indeterminate child or children from a runaway, Boston, Massachusetts, June 26, 1915. A team of heavy horses drawing a load became frightened and galloped along the street toward Toomey. Seeing children on the street, Toomey ran to meet the horses and seized the bridle of one of them. He was carried off his feet and dragged 70 feet before the horses stopped. He then lay under the horses, still retaining his hold, and was unable to rise. He was disabled 165 days by a broken kneecap and other injuries. 15260-1211
