John L. Gridley, 25, machinist, died attempting to help rescue Philip A. Herbert from burning, Dayton, Ohio, November 23, 1910. (See case of HENRY S. BLANK.) Gridley assisted Blank in his effort to lift Philip from the tank but fell. His clothes caught fire, and he sustained burns that resulted in his death. 5904-599
