John L. Rosenholm saved Dwight S. Martin from drowning, Ashtabula Harbor, Ohio, December 24, 1921. An automobile that Martin, 56, laborer, was driving fell into the Ashtabula River at a drawbridge, which was open. It was dark and cold, and the water was 25 feet deep. Martin rose clear of the automobile and drifted to a point 35 feet from the abutment of the bridge. Rosenholm, 32, painter, dived from the abutment and swam to Martin, who was then unconscious. Rosenholm seized his overcoat and towed him to the abutment. Men lowered a rope to Rosenholm, and he tied it around Martin, but as they started to draw Martin up, the rope slipped, and Martin fell back into the water. With Rosenholm holding the rope around Martin, they were then drawn to the top of the abutment. Martin was revived. 22086-1768
