John L. Welch saved O. Grey Hutchison from drowning, Coryville, Pennsylvania, July 18, 1914. Hutchison, 42, clergyman, got into difficulty 25 feet from the bank of Potato Creek, where the water was 15 feet deep. John, 13, schoolboy, who weighed nearly 100 pounds less than Hutchison, swam out to him, seized his hair, and swam 17 feet with him to shallow water. On the way Hutchison placed his hand on John’s shoulder but did not struggle with him. 13420-1375
