John P. Finnegan, 13, schoolboy, saved Joseph S. Moretti, 17, weaver, from drowning, Cranston, Rhode Island, July 13, 1927. While swimming in the Pawtuxet River, Joseph became distressed 60 feet from the bank. John swam 50 feet to Joseph but was prevented from taking hold of him by Joseph’s dog, which swam around Joseph. John swam 40 feet alongside of Joseph as the latter drifted and then grasped him. The dog snapped and snarled at John, but he swam five to 10 feet closer to the bank with Joseph and was met by a youth, who helped him take Joseph to the bank. Joseph was semiconscious but revived. 27420-2349
