John Schwendinger, 42, clerk, died attempting to save Louis J. Traut, 20, from drowning, Dubuque, Iowa, September 6, 1908. Traut, who could not swim, got into water beyond his depth while bathing in the Mississippi River. Schwendinger swam to him but was grabbed around the arms and shoulders and could not release himself. Both were drowned. 2902-239
