John T. Nightingale, 21, student, helped to save Timothy Lynch, 40, janitor, from drowning, Boston, Massachusetts, March 9, 1910. (See case of KENNETH L. LINDSEY.) Nightingale followed Lindsey a short time after he had gone to the rescue. The ice broke under Nightingale, and he went into water to his armpits, but he got out upon solid ice and assisted in getting Lynch from the water. After getting Lynch within 35 feet of the wall, Lindsey went ahead to get stimulants. Lynch was unable to stand, and Nightingale pulled and pushed him to the wall, both going through the ice twice before the wall was reached. 4674-619
