John W. Dawson died attempting to save J. Valentine Parker from drowning, Corwin, Kansas, June 5, 1932. While Valentine, 15, schoolboy, was swimming in Sandy Creek, he got into distress in water 14 feet deep 20 feet from the bank. Dawson, 43, farmer, who was in wadable water 12 feet from him, swam to him, was grasped and momentarily submerged, and then swam back to wadable water. A youth reached Valentine but being grasped broke away. Dawson returned to Valentine, again was grasped, but freed himself and swam to wadable water, where he removed attire. Finally Dawson, who was winded, swam 15 feet to Valentine, who threw his arms around Dawson’s neck. Both sank and drowned. 32193-2632
