Joseph A. Arsenault, Jr., helped to save Mark E. Tuttle from burning, Belgrade, Maine, January 2, 2019. Tuttle, 54, was inside the cab of a burning tanker truck filled with nearly 10,000 gallons of home heating fuel after a highway accident. The tanker, which had ruptured and spilled fuel, came to rest on its passenger side. Arsenault, 62, mail carrier, was working across the road and saw the tanker truck in flames. Fuel spilled on the road also caught fire. Arsenault ran to the truck’s cab, its windshield broken, and saw a disoriented Tuttle inside. The truck’s hood had been torn off and the engine was in flames. Another man ran up to the cab and stood next to Arsenault. Aided by Arsenault and the man, Tuttle was removed from the vehicle through the windshield, and helped away from the truck as flames spread to the cab. Fifty-foot-high flames shortly issued from the top of the tanker and thick, black smoke filled the sky. Tuttle sustained a shoulder injury and contusions to his body; he was not burned. Arsenault was not injured. 90274-10152
