Joseph C. Pavlik II helped to save Blanche Brown and Elizabeth A. Beauchamp from drowning, Taylor, Texas, May 29, 1987. Mrs. Brown, 78, and Mrs. Beauchamp, 41, were in a car that stalled on a road flooded by the rapidly rising waters of Mustang Creek. Driving in the vicinity, Pavlik, 42, antique refinisher, saw the women and waded to them. He helped Mrs. Brown from the car moments before it was carried away by the current. The current took also Pavlik and the two women downstream into deep water. They were carried 1,800 feet into partially submerged trees, to which they clung for more than an hour until they were rescued by firemen. Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Beauchamp both required treatment for their injuries, from which they recovered. Pavlik sustained cuts and bruises, and he too recovered.
